If you want to open and read ebooks on your computer, consider the following software below.

Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)

This is a free application that allows you to read digital books, comics, and magazines on your computer. You can also create collections of your favorite titles and share them with friends. It works on Windows and Mac computers.

Apple iBooks

The iBooks app is available for both iOS devices and Mac computers running macOS Mojave. With it, you can read ebooks purchased from Apple’s iBookstore. You can also sync your purchases with other devices using iCloud or iTunes so that you always have access to them regardless of where you are. It works on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac computer running macOS Mojave or later versions of the OS X operating system.

Mobipocket is a cross-platform e-book reader software, developed by Mobipocket.com, which allows users to read e-books created in the Mobipocket format.

Mobipocket Reader is free software for Windows, Mac and Linux that allows you to read your ebooks on your computer screen. It's very simple and easy to use: just download the latest version of Mobipocket Reader, select your ebook file and wait until it downloads! You'll be able to read it in just a few minutes.

You can also try Calibre - this is a free program that can convert all sorts of ebook files into other formats or even create them from scratch (if you want).
